South Lakes & Furness (Cumbria)

Informal Social

At the Grange Hotel, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria

Friday 1st September 2023

Hello fellow OSBs,

My name is Carter CROFT and I am the President of the St Beghian Society. I am trying to revive interest in the school, which now has an excellent Headmaster, Robin Silk. Since Robin has been at St Bees, he has greatly increased pupil numbers, with around 100 attending this academic year. This is an incredible feat - he said he would do it, and he has.

Our Society role is to support the school and I, as the President, am attempting to promote regional interest. We already have a North Lakes and Cumbria OSB section run, by Darryl Davies, who meet once a year at Armathwaite Hall. This is a very successful event, with 60+ at the Dinner this February.

When I attended the OSB and Founders’ Days last June, I chatted with a number of OSBs and it was mentioned that there is currently no Furness or South Lakes Branch event. And so, I am attempting to drum up interest, and it is our intention to organise an informal social gathering and to include and encourage partners also to attend.

Therefore, on Friday 22nd (*changed to 1st*) September 2023 from 6.30 pm, the Society is going to host an informal social at the Grange Hotel, Grange-over-Sands. There will be a bar (unfortunately not a free bar) and a finger buffet at £10.00 per head. Also, overnight accommodation is available (including the use of a spa for residents), at a preferential price.

This is a wonderful way of reconnecting with old mates, as well as connecting with new and more recent OSBs. We need youth to come through if the Society is to prosper. Please try to spread the word and support our efforts. This a free friendship group with common interests.

So, please let us know if you are interested in attending and book as below.
